Dear Mineralogists,
I'm delighted to learn that Nanjing plans to hold IMA in 2026. On behalf of The Chinese Society for Mineralogy, Petrology, and Geochemistry (CSMPG), I would like to express my heartfelt appreciation for inviting us to participate in the host committee.
Founded in October 1978, CSMPG is a member of the Chinese Association of Science and Technology. In 1981, CSMPG joined IMA and IAGC as a representative of China and is now a national member of the International Mineralogical Association. CSMPG has over 7,000 members at present. With 26 professional committees and three working committees, the Society holds academic and scientific activities more than ten times a year.
The mission of CSMPG is to serve the public. It promotes free academic communications, adheres to scientific discovery and applications, fosters the transition of research paradigm, and actively encourages the spirit of dedication, innovation, truth-seeking, and collaboration. A key objective of CSMPG is to strengthen the unity and international cooperation of the mineral and rock geochemistry community in China and to advance the application of novel theories and technologies in mineralogy, petrology, and geochemistry. We will continue to organize academic exchanges and scientific research, improve the business level of academic personnel, as well as develop interdisciplinary research fields.
There are hundreds of CSMPG members working at universities and academic institutes in Nanjing, one of the most active and international cities in China. Its brilliant history, pioneering economic development, and leadership position in science and education make it the ideal location for strengthening scientific cooperation and communication among mineralogists from around the world. To host IMA 2026 is an opportunity for both organizers and participants. If Nanjing is selected, we believe IMA 2026 will impress you with a city that combines modernity and tradition.
Looking forward to seeing you in Nanjing!
Sincerely,
Prof. Xinbin Feng
President of Chinese Society for Mineralogy, Petrology, and Geochemistry (CSMPG)
